Marjoriet Matute is the Editor in Chief of Dapper Dads Magazine, and the founder of Devin & Tristan Give Back. But what made her found this non-profit, was truly a miracle.
Matute was diagnosed with Hodgkins Lymphoma in 1999, at the age of 17. After chemo and radiation eventually got rid of her cancer in 2000, doctors told her she would not be able to conceive. Yet in 2009, she and her husband were blessed with their first son, Devin, and in 2011, their second son, Tristan.
Soon after her sons were born, Matute felt moved to give back to the organizations that helped her during her battle with cancer. In 2012, she and her close family and friends founded Devin & Tristan Give Back, named after her sons, with the purpose of teaching them what it means to give back.
During the past two years, the organization has hosted toy drives benefiting pediatric cancer patients, collected food for the homeless, and raised awareness on issues such as lupus, autism and cancer, among countless other good deeds.
“The world is hungry for opportunities to give back,” Matute told New Latina. “Our most common feedback once someone discovers us is ‘I always want to get involved but don’t know how.’ My small vision of donating a few dollars a year has evolved to helping inspire others monthly.”
