At 17, Alissa Chavez should be proud to call herself one of nation's youngest inventors. Last week, she started to raise awareness about her new invention called the “Hot Seat.”

According to KidsandCars.org, a total of 20 children have died this year, in the U.

S, due to adults forgetting children in heated cars. Chavez, who actually thought of the "Hot Seat" idea when she was 14, for a eighth grade science project, made it her goal to stop unnecessary child deaths overheated cars.

The “Hot Seat” device is made up of four components: a sensor pad, a key fob, a car alarm and a phone app. The sensor pad is placed under the car seat, and if it senses a child is in the car seat, and the key fob is over 40 feet away, the key fob, the car alarm and the app all proceed to go off with the alert.

“I hope my product will one day be in all car seats, and we will not have to hear of any more children dying in hot cars,” she told Fox News Latino.

It looks like she's really close to her goal, as she has already patented the device and started her own campaign on indiegogo.com. She is hoping to raise enough funds to create her first prototype.
